Do NFC Business Cards Work on iPhone and Android?
Updated 1 October 2026·Works on iPhone & Android — QR code works on every phone·Zero App Required
✓Executive Summary
Yes. iPhone XS and every newer iPhone read NFC business cards automatically when the phone is unlocked — no app needed. Most Android phones read them too, as long as NFC is switched on in settings. For any phone that can't tap, the QR code on the card opens the same profile.
01
iPhone
- iPhone XS, XR and newer: unlock the phone and hold the top edge of the back near the card. A notification appears — tap it to open the profile.
- Older iPhones: scan the QR code with the camera instead.
- The screen must be on and unlocked; iPhones don't read tags from the lock screen with the display off.
02
Android
- Most Android phones sold in India in recent years have NFC.
- Make sure it's on: Settings → Connected devices (or Connections) → NFC. The exact menu name varies by brand.
- The NFC antenna is usually in the middle of the back — hold the card there.
03
If a phone won't read the card
- Check the phone is unlocked and NFC is on.
- Remove thick or metal phone cases, which can block the signal.
- Hold still for a second — NFC reads within a few centimetres.
- Use the QR code on the card. It always works with the phone camera.
Frequently Asked Questions
Common Questions
Does the other person need an app?
No. Their phone reads the NFC chip (or its camera scans the QR code) and your profile opens in the browser. Nothing to install on either side.
Does the person tapping need internet?
Yes — the phone reads the link offline, but opening your profile needs mobile data or Wi-Fi.
